My Story

Hi, I’m Kevin Coleman, an LA based swim instructor with over 10 years of experience teaching swimmers of all ages and skill levels.

My journey in aquatics started early through competitive swimming and water polo at St. Benedict’s Prep, where I developed a deep respect for the discipline, confidence, and life skills that swimming can provide. From there, I began teaching lessons at local recreation centers and the YMCA, eventually continuing instruction throughout college and beyond.

Over the years, I’ve worked with beginners learning to swim for the very first time, experienced swimmers refining technique, adults overcoming fear of the water, and athletes training for events like triathlons. No matter the experience level, my goal has always been the same: create a safe, encouraging environment where people can build confidence in and around the water.

Swim With Kevin was created from a bigger mission, to make swimming more accessible and to provide representation within communities that are often underserved in aquatics. I believe swimming is more than just a sport or workout; it’s a life-saving skill, a source of confidence, and a form of freedom that everyone deserves access to.

Whether you’re starting from zero or looking to take your swimming to the next level, I’m here to help guide that journey.

Why I Teach

Helping People Feel Safe and Strong in the Water

For many people, swimming can feel stressful at first. Some students are nervous, some have had a difficult experience in the water, and some simply never had the chance to learn properly.

That is why I focus on creating a supportive lesson experience. My goal is not just to teach strokes, but to help students feel safe, relaxed, and in control.
